Here's the River
(c) Jim Stringer, Little Book Music, BMI

We played for nickels and dimes; my Daddy called it Sunday School.
I was a straight A student till one day we were shooting pool
I cleaned the table and was bound to win
All I had to do was shoot the eight ball in
Daddy drew an 'X' with his finger
And sat back on his stool.

He said, "Here's the river, here's the lake
Here's where you could make a big mistake
If you let it, it'll blow your nerve."
With a steady hand, I could have won the match
But my hand started shaking and then I scratched
When he said "Here's the river, here's the lake
Here's where you could make a big mistake."

Many years later, in a Texas Hold ‘Em game
Of the ten that started, just me and another remained
He raised 'cause he thought he'd win
But I just smiled and said, "All in!"
I Drew and 'X' with my finger and sat back on my chair.

I said, "Here's the river, here's the lake
Here's where you could make a big mistake
If you let it, it'll blow your nerve."
You may have a hand, but it's not enough
If you think I'm lyin', just call my bluff
Mister, here's the river, here's the lake
Here's where you, make a big mistake

(recit...)
You know what I was holding? A seven and a three...
But he laid down two Queens saying "too rich for me."
“What’d you have,” he asked
But I replied, “No way,
You wanna see this boy’s pocket, you’ve got to pay.”

Here’s the river, here’s the lake,
Here’s where you just made a big mistake.
